The stars are not wanted now: put out every one; Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun; Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood. For nothing now can ever come to any good.
W.H. Auden
Happens today is the autumn equinox, which ushers in winter...A befitting date for such a sad event.
I think the hardest part of being close to animals is that we often have to make the hard decision you made this week.
I've done it more than once; I know it will be my task again; and it always wrings my heart.
I think of the Beatles' "In My Life":
"There are places I’ll remember All my life though some have changed Some forever not for better Some have gone and some remain All these places have their moments With lovers and friends I still can recall Some are dead and some are living In my life I’ve loved them all"

Sorry to hear about the loss of a good friend and horse, but glad to know you gave him a good, long life. Few enough retired animal athletes get such.
ReplyDeleteAlso sorry over here. Good companions don't need to be humans.
